What is the most efficient angle to absorb sunlight, and why?

Even thought the most likely answer is 90 degrees, i had found journals disproving it.

The 90 degrees is just a rule of thumb because it is the way to get the most sunlight per given area of your collector. If the surface is flat and you angle it, you make the sunlight fall on an increasingly larger surface area. However, sunlight angle is only one factor in collector efficiency. If the other factors are better at a different angle than 90 then they could overcome the effect of the sunlight concentration.
