Banjo Minnow?? plzz help out=]=]=]?
im thinking bout buying the 110 piece banjo minnow set. im wondering... does it work? how good? what kind of fish does i work on best? plz help me out=]
I've used the Banjo minnow for years! First, let me explain what the banjo is. The rig is basically a kahle style hook, a hitch-hiker connector, two rubber stoppers (to keep the connector from sliding up and down the hook) and a rubber band to keep it all weedless. You screw the banjo onto the hook, then you retrieve it with a series of jerks and pauses. Sounds simple, and it is. Anyone could make their own bonjo rig no problem. But here's the thing: Hitchhiker connectors are expensive - Banjo sells them cheaper than anywhere I've found. The hooks are standard fair, but the rubber bands are a small size that is hard to find anywhere outside the banjo minnow store. The minnow themselves are the BEST soft plastic jerkbaits that I have ever used - they are very soft and lifelike, whereas most store bought brands are stiffer and don't move as well. You also get some stand-up type jigs for shaking minnows on the bottom, and some frogs. There are a lot of better soft plastic frogs on the market, but these aren't half bad. As far as the new generation minnows go - it's the same basic concept, but instead of the hitch-hiker connector, you get eyes that have an extension that attaches to the hook.
The banjos are a great beginner bait, and I still do use them quite often still today. I use them mainly in shallow water, sometimes I'll use the jigs when bass are spawning. The banjo store is fantastic and you can buy discontinued clearance items dirt cheap. I'm not one to fall for TV lures, but the banjo works! But, different conditions call for different approaches, so I wouldn't recommend using them exclusively!
