What is the method to stop chickens flying the coop? Do I clip the wings or bend them, please?
Most humane treatment please.
Some breeds are flightier than others. I've only ever had one hen fly over the pen and that was because she was young (light) and got a touch over excited at the sight of me bringing some treats!
I don't find it necessary to clip the wings as my breeds are fairly heavy and not the flighty varieties.
If your hens do fly out of their pen, you can clip one of their wings...don't do both. And definitely DO NOT bend the wings! That would only injure the bird!
Be careful how you clip the wing and avoid the quick area of the wing to prevent bleeding. You only want to trim the flight feathers.
