Why can't you buy deer, crappie, rabbit , brim etc in stores?
Why can't you buy deer, crappie, elk, brim etc in stores
You can buy catfish, but not the other fish (except ocean fish) in stores, how about deer? I know it is not regulated, but why not?
Have you just ever wanted to go into the store an buy a slab of deer
or rabbit, instead of the turkey for thanksgiving?
Why can't I go into a grocery store like Kroger here in Memphis Tennessee and purchase deer meat, rabbit, brim, crappie, etc...
Because all of those are wild game and not farmed for mass consumption. There are a few speciality butchers who do carry it on a regular basis depending on where you are, and still others can order it for you. If push comes to shove it can be mail ordered and shipped frozen via FedEx.
Here in New York City we can get rabbit pretty easily especially if we go to Italian butchers. Granted, it's not at basic chain supermarkets, but we have a lot of speciality markets here so it's accessible.
And there is a butcher downtown at the Essex Street Market who carries all the game meats you mentioned as well as exotics. He's had rattlesnake from time to time, alligator, ostrich, etc.
