Is it okay to use Recreational style Goalie Pads to play Butterfly style?
I recently bought a pair of Hockey Goalie pads.
you can see them here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=486410&l=84ada49ace&id=1718806898
They're the RBK Premier 1k Series.
I'm going into high-school next year, and play butterfly style. Unfortunately, I don't have $1000 to put out for my pads. Do you think these pads are good enough to play butterfly in high-school?
Here's the website links:

PS. I play BALL HOCKEY, no pucks.
No way man, these pads are for street/floor hockey. You could rip them off, or worse, get injured. They won't give you the lateral support you need on the ice and the material is obviously not padded enough. Neither is the chest protector, or even the recreational ice hockey one, if you play at a high level. They are nice pads though, and you could still play with them if it was outdoor hockey with foam pucks or light-weight pucks.
Your pads won't probably be accepted and the referees/coach will notice them and they won't allow you to play with them. I understand that ice hockey pads are expensive, however you should spend at least 200 dollars to get a decent pair (used). The solution would be getting them used (check Ebay, Craiglist, Kijiji, Amazon) or from a store like Play It Again Sport. At least they are made for ice and employees there make sure their gear is safe before selling them. As we said, better safe than sorry.
For the blocker, playing with regular puck? Forget about it. Trust me, I tried, and after a single time if was tore off. If you decide to play with them and they let you, be prepared to buy a couple of duct tape rolls lol, or buy new equipment often, because you'll need it. At the end, ice gear will last longer and be worth more because of the accumulated amounts you might spend repair your street gear.
EDIT: if it's ball hockey then yes they could do.
