Ideas on improvent? URGENT!!! all critisism welcome

i am 14 turning 15 in a few months, and i am wanting to inccorperate this poem i made into my speech about the cruelty of animal slaughter. Please help me to improve this ANY tips or critisism would be fantastic! thanks (oh and im not too keen on the 2nd pharagraph i think its weak compared to the others)
The calves run round at the time of dusk
Tails up, and hooves are thrust
They do as they please, not as they must
Yet, they lead the lives we all but lust
The calves awaken as footsteps near
As it is the owner of the noise they fear
The man shows neither sadness nor despair
For it is not his life in the truck’s back rear
the calves are limp, devoid of life
deprived of food, too weak for strife
moaning a dirge like a funeral fife
fear is plentiful, hunger rife
The calves no longer run at dusk
Upon a table they are thrust
They have no needs, no wants, nor musts
As without a life they cannot lust
oh. my. god. THAT WAS BRILLIANT! I loved it! I liked the way the first and last paragraphs were connected and the rhyming words for the word life! i could only come up with strife and knife. Well done! You wouldn't have been able to tell it was a teenage poet. It was equal to any adults'. I agree, the second paragraph lets it down. But i don't know how to change it. Focus on the 3rd line 2nd paragraph, that's the let down.
Maybe simply:
The calves awaken as footsteps near
As it is the owner of the noise they fear
The man shows no sadness or despair
For it is not his life in the truck’s back rear
my sister dosn't lie "As it is the owner of the noise they fear"
maybe it could be "as it is the owner of their lives they fear"
or "as it is their owner they can't but fear"
