Which Spray Paints Should I Use To Paint An All Metal Paintball Gun Gold Tiger Camo?
Please help... I know duplicolor and krylon are good brands but I do not know what to use. I Want It all gold with black tiger stripes over it. I want it to be really shiny so i think i have to use gloss paint? Im not even sure if i should use a paint primer before if so which kind? Also should i use a clear coat if so which kind? Please Help I want this to turn out good so that it does not chip or look bad.
I always hesitate to answer this type fo questions, because utlizing spray paint on a marker rarely turns out looking perfect, even with the most careful of intentions. Unfortunately, having one professionally chromed, anodized or powder coated can be extremely expensive, so I'll do my best to answer your questions about spray paint.
It is imperative that you not get any of the spray paint into any of the working areas of the marker (bolt, barrell, screw holes, feeder, etc). You'll need to fully strip it down and then mask off all of the openings.
You'll then want to use a fine grit of sand paper to slightly rough up all of the areas that you intend to paint. This helps the paint adhere.
Do all of this in a well ventilated, dust free area. You can use a stick or pipe through the barrell or something while painting that way you don't have to touch the marker.
Next you'll definitely want to use a quality primer specific to the marker's construction (plastic, metal, etc).
Once allowing the primer to dry properly, you can begin applying your spray paint color of choice. High gloss if you want it shiny, flat if you want a matte/dull finish, etc. Go light! You are better off taking things slow and applying multiple coats of paint. Let them each dry appropriately. This will prevent runs and also provide varying layers of your color to protect against scratches.
Finally applying a clear coat is a good idea because it will also add an extra level of protection to the paint job you have worked so hard to achieve. The spray on clear coats also come in glossy, matte, etc. Just like the paint.
Take your time. Allow each coat to dry before painting the next and you should be fine.
