how to counter when the net player is being cut off?
my partner is a net monster but once our opponents figure this out and are able to lob they take her out of the game. I try my best to set her up for some overheads but some of our opponents are able to isolate her and remove her from the equation. She trolls the net waiting for her put way shot while I am having my legs run off at the base line tring to lob or let hte ball drop enough that I can drive it. How far back should she move in order to become part of the action?
The problem is that you 2 seem to rely too much on her volleys and your base line game. When this opponent took her volleys out of the equation, you couldn't win.
Basically, you need to work on your volleys and she needs to work on her groundstrokes so that you are more versitile. The best doubles teams have players that are equally good at net and at the baseline.
Which one of the Bryan brothers is best at net? Nobody knows because the truth is they are both stellar.
To answer your question, though, it sort of depends on how deep the lobs are. If she can stay within the service box then she should try to take some overheads. If the ball goes beyond the service line, the best thing for her to do is back all the way up to the baseline. She should not try to hit in no man's land (the area between the base line and the service line).
